about

Aquarius continues the monumental saga of My Great Aunt Coleslaw. Like Capricorn, Aquarius is a 6 track release that continues her story by telling her many lifetimes through song and words.  The piano compositions were all written in her seventh lifetime at the turn of the 20th century. She worked extensively with all of the known and unknown composers of the era. All of them.

Tea Tree Shuffle is a composition where the musical notes are inverted from an original source in a musical process called Negative Harmony. In this theory, all musical harmony, gravity, and cadences are reflected- like looking in a mirror and seeing out the other side. This technique was discovered by Pythagoras, her first teacher, over two thousand years ago. My Great Aunt Coleslaw goes further into microtonal territory again on this album- Pandora's Box and Philosophy Has Died both contain 19 notes per octave. The Beauty of Words is the only song My Great Aunt Coleslaw ever wrote for just solo acoustic guitar and vocal. The single from the album, Must Have Walked Into a Dream, uses The GeoShred app to bring a new sound to the song.

The Book of Slaw: Songs From My Great Aunt Coleslaw is a year long project dedicated to the life of Elk Minister’s Great Aunt Coleslaw. The 26 albums will be released every two weeks in 2018, now dubbed The Year of The Elk. The release schedule follows a strict 28 day, 13 month calendar based around the 13 zodiac signs. This calendar, like all the music and lyrics on The Book of Slaw, was created by Great Aunt Coleslaw when she studied with Pythagoras of Samos.
